This is a fascinating reprint of the 1818 book written by the Reverend John Heckewelder, a missionary to the Indians of the Five (or Six) Nations of Pennsylvania and surrounding states. John Heckewelder spent thirty years living with this people, learning all aspects of their lives. He was commissioned to write everything he knew, and the result of that has given us a valuable treasure of historic detail. This book contains forty-four short chapters on all aspects of Iroquois life, including marriage, war, superstition, food, housing, friendship, medicine, and so much more. These are followed by two parts on the language and phrases of the Iroquois tribes, which are valuable to the the average history buff as well as a student of languages. The book is complete with detailed footnotes.
